Today is a special day for our 12 Meter Charters' Team member Cedar! Heritage's captain is getting married. Congratulations Cedar and Dan! We wish you a life full of happiness and smooth sailing! Stay tuned for pictures.
September 26 is a day that will live forever in America's Cup history. On this day in 1958 and 1983 two unforgettable America's Cup races ended in Newport! Sailing fans across the country felt the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.
VICTORY! September 26, 1958 - 12 Meter US 16, Columbia beat her English competitor, Sceptre, in the fourth and final race of the America's Cup. This victory made Columbia the first 12 Meter yacht to win the America's Cup. It has been 54 years but she is still sailing strong!
DEFEAT! September 26, 1983 - Australia II beat Dennis Conner's Liberty in the seventh and final race ending the American's 132 year winning streak and taking the America's Cup out of Newport!
It has been thirty years since the America's Cup race was in Newport but the spirit of the Auld Mug still lives on in Newporters!
The sun has set on another wonderful summer in Newport, Rhode Island. Today, September 22, is the autumn equinox, marking the end of summer and the start of fall. An equinox occurs twice a year (around 20 March and 22 September), when the plane of the Earth's equator passes the center of the Sun. At this time the tilt of the Earth's axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun. This means that night and daylight hours are about equal on the equinox. On this autumn equinox we welcome aboard fall and look forward to a few more weeks of sailing in Newport, Rhode Island. Don't miss the chance to get on board our 12 Meter yachts!
Red sky at night...sailors' delights! Last night our guests were treated to a beautiful September sunset in Newport Harbor. Here are the views of our 12 Meter yachts Columbia and Heritage as the sun was setting! Thanks to Captain Cedar and Mate Chris for the fabulous pictures.
