Heritage, America’s Cup contender, sets sail for her 40th year!

On May 15, 1970, Charlie Morgan launched his America’s Cup campaign with the 12 Meter yacht, Heritage. Morgan was the only competitor to solely design, fund, and skipper an America’s Cup campaign. As the cranes lowered Heritage toward the water in St. Petersburg, Florida the trouble began. One of the cranes toppled forward and Heritage swung as the operator tried to regain control. Although there was no serious damage, Heritage had to be repaired and re-launched.

Forty years later, on May 3, 2010, Heritage was more smoothly launched for the season and is ready for another year of sailing. Even after forty years, countless days of sailing, and hundreds of thousands of guests, Heritage is still speedy and striking. Her bright hull is a beacon among thousands of yachts in Newport, Rhode Island, her current home port. Heritage is the perfect location for on-the-water events including private parties, team-building, wedding events, sunset sails and much more! Her professional and friendly crew stands ready to serve. They get rave reviews from our guests! Come aboard and enjoy a day aboard Charlie Morgan’s beauty!
